Mixed-Berry Detox Smoothie

How about waking up to a tall glass of this thick, creamy, tasty and most importantly, healthy smoothie? I would love to.... every single day for the rest of my life!! If I tell you what's in this "3-ingredient" "super-hydrating" "detox" smoothie, I'm sure you would want one too..

Perfect for your breakfast table, this smoothie is loaded with fiber, anti-oxidants and immune boosting nutrients - exactly what you need to start your day.

Oh wait.. did you get judgmental seeing all the fancy food jargons in one recipe?! well, don't be... because you are in for a BIG surprise.. mixed berries, very ripe bananas, coconut water and a good blender like Ninja is all you need to make this delicious smoothie. The best news yet, this recipe uses no sugar ABSOLUTELY.. not even substitutes... yet rightly sweet and tasty... now, how cool is that?

Though you can use fresh / frozen berries for this recipe, I strongly recommend buying fresh organic summer berries from farmer's market.. wash, clean, freeze and stock them up for off-season/winter. Having said that, this recipe works like a wonder even with store-bought frozen berries. I used a mix of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cherries and pomegranate seeds.

The secret ingredient of the recipe is "bananas"... not just any regular bananas, but the super-ripened kind, the blackened, mushy kind that everyone would pass and no-one would want to eat. These bananas are golden... gives the right amount of sweetness and perfect consistency that a smoothie needs. Once your banana is super-duper-deliciously-ripe, peel the outer layer, freeze them in ziploc and use it whenever you crave for a healthy smoothie. But remember, if you use regular bananas, you might have to add sweeteners like sugar, honey, maple-syrup etc.

Coconut water, the star ingredient of the recipe is the latest health craze in the U.S... low in calories, potassium-rich, fat and cholesterol free, coconut water is naturally refreshing and super hydrating. Just replace it with regular water if you don't have coconut water in stock.
